About credit union manager

The manager oversees member service: lending, running accounts and taking deposits. A credit union belongs to its own members, and lending and savings services are offered to them. Staff are informed about new procedures and about the union's own rules, and held to the standards the organisation has adopted.

The manager also handles the union's finances. They prepare financial statements, run financial analysis of the loan book and develop a financial plan covering costs, the rate paid on deposits, the level of provisions against loans that have stopped performing. Financial risk is managed, and collection work draws on debt systems and on insolvency law, because some of what is owed gets recovered through an arrangement or through a borrower's bankruptcy.

Skills for credit union management also include an understanding of corporate social responsibility, which shapes how the union treats its members and the community it serves.
