About clothing operations manager

The apparel production manager builds the schedule: when fabric arrives, when the cutting room starts, how many lines go on a given style, and when a batch has to be packed. The production plan is communicated to the sewing and cutting rooms and production activities coordinated, because a delay at one stage holds up the next.

The manager also handles customer guidelines for the garments being produced — specification, size chart, finishing requirements — and analyses supply chain strategies: where fabric comes from, what stock to hold, and what can be moved when an order grows mid-run. Technical drawings of garment components are produced and passed to the sewing room with the production plan.

A clothing manager also runs process control in the apparel industry, checking that operations proceed as planned, and manages the staff: line manning, training and output accounting.
