About clothing sample machinist

The sample is a decision document rather than a garment. Whatever the machinist does to make the first one becomes the method the factory will repeat thousands of times, so a construction that needs unnecessary extra operations will not be used. Deciding with production in view is the distinguishing skill of this role.

The making is a full garment trade. The machinist cuts the fabrics, spreads the fabric as the fashion industry does it, sews the clothing items, works from garment manufacturing knowledge, and alters the garment as the design is adjusted.

Checking and the clock close the work. The machinist inspects the clothing products, assesses the quality of the garment, and operates the computerised control systems that hold the specifications and the measurements. Samples are made against a deadline.
