About wicker furniture maker

The maker prepares the wicker for weaving, which means soaking and softening it so that a rod bends instead of cracking, and sorting it by thickness and length for the part of the piece it will become. A design for the item is prepared first, so that the frame, the weave and the proportions are settled before any rod is bent.

The work itself is cutting, bending and weaving, using hand tools, power tools and machine tools, with holes for the frame drilled on a drill press. The maker applies wicker furniture weaving techniques, in which the weave itself joins the parts of a piece.

At the end, the maker applies wood finishing techniques and adds a protective coating, with waxes, lacquers and other coatings that give the surface its finish and protect it against decay and fire. The maker also follows furniture trends.
