About furniture assembler
Furniture assembly techniques start with the instructions. The assembler reads the assembly plan and memorises the order in which parts come together. They create furniture frames and carcasses, fit components so that drawers and doors run true, and where a model calls for it install springs or special mechanisms such as a folding or reclining action. Holes for dowels and hardware are drilled on a drill press and on a multi-spindle boring machine that makes several holes in one pass.
Hand tools and power tools are both in constant use. Wood surfaces are cleaned before and after assembly, and the finished piece receives a protective coating.
The job rests on following written instructions exactly and on remembering a sequence. Someone starting out assembles simple carcasses and auxiliary parts, legs, cushions and handles among them, before moving to models with mechanisms. Formal requirements are set by the employer.
