About envelope maker
The maker configures the machine control panel for the envelope being produced, runs test pieces before a batch, and monitors the conveyor that feeds the paper, because a crooked sheet causes defective envelopes.
The maker checks paper quality, since weight, grain direction and moisture content all change how a sheet folds and whether the glue holds, and a batch of paper that has sat in a damp store behaves differently from the same paper delivered dry.
Envelope quality is maintained throughout the run: the squareness of the fold, the strength of the seam, the coverage of the gum and whether the flap seals and stays sealed. Problems are solved at the machine, where a jam, a glue line that has dried or a worn former has to be dealt with without stopping the line for long. Machinery is operated safely, since the machine runs fast and the work is close to moving parts.
