About absorbent pad machine operator

The machine takes in cellulose fibres and compresses them into a highly absorbent padding material used in nappies, tampons and other hygiene products. The operator configures the machine control panel, setting line speed and other operating parameters, and then monitors the automatic machines and the conveyor that carries the material, reacting when readings drift from the settings.

The operator performs test runs, starting the machine on trial and checking that the pad meets requirements, and stops the line and corrects the settings on a deviation. The operator knows the types of polymer and the manufacture of staple fibre products, and so can judge how a change of raw material will affect the finished pad.

Solving problems with the line is also part of the job: the operator finds the cause of a fault and clears it or reports it to maintenance staff. Machinery is handled safely, following the workstation instructions and health and safety rules. Formal requirements are set by the employer.

Raw material management

  • Load and feed cellulose fibers and other raw materials into the machine hoppers according to specifications
  • Monitor material flow and stock levels, requesting replenishment when necessary to avoid production stoppages
3

Quality control and inspection

  • Inspect finished absorbent pads for defects, proper dimensions, absorbency, and adherence to specifications
  • Remove defective products from production line and document quality issues for investigation
  • Perform regular testing of product samples to verify absorbency and other critical parameters
4

Machine maintenance and troubleshooting

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning, lubrication, and replacement of wear parts
  • Troubleshoot minor mechanical or operational issues and make adjustments to restore normal operation
  • Report significant equipment problems to maintenance technicians and assist in repairs as needed
5

Safety and workplace compliance

  • Follow all safety procedures, wear appropriate personal protective equipment, and maintain a clean and safe work area
  • Report safety hazards, near-miss incidents, and accidents to supervisors immediately
6

Production documentation and reporting

  • Record production data including quantities produced, machine settings, downtime, and quality metrics
  • Communicate with shift supervisors and production team members about production status and any issues
