About energy manager
Measurement comes before anything else. The manager monitors energy demand, manages the energy use of buildings, and works from a knowledge of the energy performance of buildings. The manager also carries out the energy management of the organisation's facilities.
Advice is the output. The manager advises on the energy efficiency of heating systems and on sustainable management policy.
Two parts of the role are organisational rather than technical. Managing supplies means buying energy as well as using it, where the contract and the tariff can matter as much as the equipment. And a policy only works if people apply it, so the manager develops the staff, works to the organisation's standards and to its corporate social responsibility commitments, and has to persuade departments that did not ask for the change to make it.
