About power plant manager
The power plant manager coordinates energy production: setting the operating plan for the units, matching it to what the system needs, and keeping the plant available. Supplies of fuel, water and consumables are managed. Outage deadlines are met, with overhauls planned outside the period of peak demand.
The manager also supervises the construction, operation and maintenance of the energy transmission and distribution systems that belong to the plant: substations, switchgear, lines and transformers. Electrical safety regulations have to be known, and a nuclear station adds the requirements of the nuclear regulator on top.
The manager also handles budgets, accounts for the cost of generation and introduces energy saving measures for the station's own consumption. Company standards and organisational guidelines are followed, and the operations and maintenance staff are supervised. Electricity generation itself is carried on under a licence from the energy regulator.
