About bed and breakfast operator
Running a bed and breakfast covers both looking after guests and managing the finances of the house. The operator takes bookings and keeps guest records, greets arrivals and hands over keys, prepares the rooms, serves breakfast and answers questions about the area. Customer service is managed, which means seeing that a guest gets what the listing promised, and complaints are handled when something has gone wrong.
Running the place calls for arithmetic. The operator forecasts occupancy, on which the number of rooms to prepare and the sense of taking a group both depend, oversees the finances and manages the budget: the cost of linen, laundry, utilities and breakfasts against the revenue from rooms. Hotel operations are understood as well.
When serving breakfast, the operator applies food hygiene regulations. Both the accommodation and the breakfasts served to guests are subject to registration under national rules.
