About tufting operator

Tufting means stitching tufts of yarn into a backing, which becomes carpet or floor covering. The tufting machine operator checks the machines after setting, at start-up and during production: yarn tension, the work of the needles and loopers, pile height and stitch density, because a fault at one needle repeats along the whole length of the product.

The operator knows textile industry products and textile techniques, assesses textile material properties, and creates samples that are compared against the standard before a run starts. Automatic machines are monitored, which means watching stop signals, yarn breaks and the readings of the control systems, and correcting small deviations before they turn into defects.

The operator also controls the conditions production runs in: humidity, temperature, the state of the needles and the quality of the yarn delivered. The operator produces textile floor coverings that conform to specification and to quality standards, and holds back a batch that does not. Tufting technology is part of the knowledge.
