A theme park technician is a person who maintains and repairs the equipment of an amusement park, with specialist knowledge of the particular rides they are responsible for.

About theme park technician

Safety is particularly important in this work. The technician ensures the health and safety of visitors and of staff, inspects and services the rides, maintains electronic systems and works from mechanics and from knowledge of vehicles' mechanical components, since a roller coaster car, for example, is a vehicle running on a track. The technician also checks the communication functions of moving attractions, meaning the link between the operator and the ride.

The technician also keeps records of maintenance and repairs carried out and of the running and downtime of each serviced ride, and keeps an inventory of the components of moving attractions, so that the life of a part is known before it fails.

Emergency procedures used in amusement parks are part of the technician's knowledge, including how people are brought down from a ride that has stopped where it is. The work calls for broad technical knowledge of mechanics and electronics; formal requirements are set by the employer and national rules.
