About snowboard instructor

Teaching snowboarding is different from teaching skiing. Both feet are fixed to one edge-controlled platform, so a beginner has to learn to stand, fall and get up before anything resembling a turn is possible. The instructor demonstrates the exercises and watches how pupils perform them.

Correcting movement is an important part of the role. The instructor corrects potentially harmful body movements, which on a snowboard matters particularly: the characteristic injuries come from a wrist put out to break a fall and from a rotation the knee was not meant to take, and both are addressed by changing what the rider does rather than by adding protection afterwards.

Planning and safety complete the work. The instructor plans the sports training programme, adapts the programme to individual needs and the teaching methods to the target group, organises the training, delivers the sports instruction, and applies risk management methods in sport. Advising on equipment belongs here.
