About horse riding instructor
The riding instructor runs lessons and teaches riding techniques: halting the horse, turning, show riding and jumping. The instructor corrects body movements that could harm either rider or horse, and adapts teaching methods to the target group, whether one rider or a group.
A riding teacher also plans sports training programmes and assesses results achieved at competitions, and uses those results to plan further training. The instructor knows equestrian equipment: the saddle, the bridle and the helmet, and the condition they should be in. The instructor applies risk management methods in sport to reduce the risk of a fall and of injury to the rider.
The instructor also motivates clients and helps them improve their performance. The job calls for a sound knowledge of equitation itself and the ability to give sports instruction. Horse riding instructor requirements are set by national rules and by equestrian federations, which run instructor courses.
