About football coach

The football coach plans the training programme: distributing work on endurance, strength, speed, technique and tactics across a cycle, together with rest periods. The coach runs sessions on the pitch, demonstrates and corrects technique — receiving, passing, striking, body position — and adapts teaching methods to what each player can do, whether young or adult.

Before a match the coach analyses the opposition, decides the line-up and the tactics, sets tasks for individual players and goes over them before they take the field. During the game the coach leads from the touchline: passing instructions, changing the shape and deciding on substitutions.

After the fixture the coach evaluates results from the match and across the cycle, compares them with what was intended and changes the plan, and talks to players about what can be improved. The coach develops a coaching style of their own and takes part in the sessions alongside the squad. Coaching licences are issued by football associations in graded levels.
