About répétiteur
In the performing arts, the répétiteur works with a singer on the part itself. The répétiteur plays the orchestral part at the piano from a piano reduction, stops a performer where something needs correcting, repeats a passage, and leads a singer through text, rhythm and entries. The répétiteur identifies the needs of each performer, adapts the way of working to them and gives artists guidance during rehearsals.
The work happens inside the frame the conductor sets. The répétiteur passes on those instructions, keeps to the tempo and the phrasing adopted for a production, and prepares a performer so that a rehearsal with the orchestra does not have to start from the beginning. The répétiteur also stimulates the artist's imagination, helping them find the musical sense of a phrase rather than only the right notes.
The répétiteur works with people of different temperaments. The répétiteur also takes part in studio recording sessions, develops their own way of running a session, and knows intellectual property law and labour law.
