About dancer
The dancer's work is the performance of dance: the interpretation of a choreographer's work or of a traditional repertoire, and in some forms improvisation as well. The dancer prepares for a role from a script or from a notated choreography, interacts with the other performers on stage, dancers and actors alike, and works with people of widely different temperaments.
Professional dancers assess their own dance skills throughout a career: technique, range of movement, and what the body is able to do in a given period. The results of that assessment guide further work on technique and preparation for the next roles.
The dancer manages their own artistic career, which means presenting their work, attending auditions and agreeing contracts, and applies labour law and intellectual property law in the process, since a choreography is protected by copyright and a dancer's performance by related rights.
