About laundromat attendant
The attendant helps customers with the machines and answers their questions. The attendant also reads the care labels on fabrics, which is how a customer is told that what they are about to do will ruin a garment, and does the laundry where a service wash is offered alongside the self-service machines.
Cleaning is also part of the job: the attendant operates the floor cleaning equipment, applies the cleaning techniques, keeps the inventory of cleaning products, and observes the personal hygiene standards while cleaning. A launderette is a public room in continuous use where water, lint and detergent accumulate, so it needs regular cleaning.
Two further duties belong to the role. The attendant oversees the opening and closing procedures, such as cleaning, restocking and securing valuables, and looks after occupational health and safety around hot machines, wet floors, chemicals and equipment customers operate themselves, keeping the launderette safe, hygienic and secure for staff and customers.
