About housing policy officer
Research comes before the policy. The officer analyses the legislation in force, compares property values to establish what affordable actually means in a given place, and establishes what the housing situation is rather than what it is assumed to be. The officer works from the facts rather than from assumptions.
The officer develops organisational policy, advises on policy development, advises on legislative acts, and influences public policy.
Implementation is where policy meets a building. The officer manages the implementation of public policy and finds solutions to the problems that appear between an intention and a dwelling: land, cost, planning, condition, and the people already living there. Housing policy is worked with partners, external organisations and other interested parties, and the officer keeps them regularly informed. Communication with partners covers the progress of the work and the problems found along the way.
