About economic policy officer

The officer monitors the state of the economy: competitiveness, innovation, trade, employment and prices. Economic trends are analysed and their further course forecast, working from statistical data rather than from single reports. The officer draws on economics, for example to tell a seasonal movement from a lasting one.

An economic policy advisor also develops policy in the field of economics, prepares economic projects and programmes, and manages the implementation of public policy: seeing that a line in a document turns into an instrument, a call for applications and a payment. Research into public policy problems is carried out, the problems are assessed and action recommended, with economic criteria weighed in every recommendation — cost, effect on the market, impact on competition.

The work is advisory and written: the officer prepares analyses, opinions and position papers for superiors and for other institutions. The officer works in institutions that develop and implement public policy, and formal requirements are set by the employer.
