About homologation engineer
The work is regulation turned into a programme of evidence. The engineer researches and interprets the regulatory requirements that apply, identifies which legal provisions a given model must satisfy, and builds an approval programme setting out what must be tested, in what order and by when. Type-approval testing is then arranged and supported, in line with European type-approval legislation and the rules of the country of sale, and the engineer keeps the programme to the approval deadlines.
The engineer is the point of contact for approval and certification, inside the company and towards external agencies and technical services. Technical documentation is prepared to support each application, and the designers and test engineers working on the vehicle are supported through the design process.
What a homologation engineer needs is a close knowledge of vehicle type-approval rules and emission standards, the ability to read a technical requirement and say precisely what it demands, familiarity with engine types and automotive diagnostic equipment, and the writing skill to produce reports a regulator will accept. Formal requirements are set by the employer.
