About hand brick moulder
The work starts with the mould. The moulder selects the type of mould and makes it to the specification, cleans it and oils it so that the piece does not stick. The moulder then fills the mould with prepared mix, removes the excess, takes out the formed piece and sets it aside to firm up.
The moulder knows the types of pottery material and clay, watches the moisture of the mix and uses release agents against sticking. They monitor drying, because water leaving too fast ends in cracking.
Firing decides how durable a piece will be. The moulder adjusts the firing temperature to the clay in hand and manages the load in the kiln, then finishes and smooths the end products. The work is done in brickworks and refractory plants. It is physical work, in contact with clay, dust and heat.
