A gas scheduling representative is a person who monitors and controls the flow of natural gas between the pipelines and the distribution system, in accordance with the schedules and the requirements in force. The representative reports on the natural gas flow, sees that the schedule is kept to, and amends the schedule where a problem means the requirements can only be met by changing it.

About gas scheduling representative

The schedule is the instrument. Gas is nominated in advance: what will be delivered, where and when, and the physical flow has to match the nomination closely enough that the system stays in balance. The representative ensures the gas transmission schedule is adhered to and supervises the gas transmission operations against it.

Demand changes constantly. Consumption moves with the weather and with industrial load, so the representative works from a knowledge of gas consumption and of fuel distribution systems and re-schedules when the two sides of the balance separate.

Safety and reporting are the fixed obligations. The representative ensures compliance with the pipeline infrastructure regulations, applies the safety requirements attaching to goods transported by pipeline, works from a knowledge of gaseous fuel, and reports the fuel distribution incidents. Gas is a commodity and a hazard at the same time, so every change to the schedule has to take the safety of the network into account.
