About excavator operator
The job is precise machine control. The operator positions the machine, works the boom and the bucket to cut to the depth and the line the drawings call for, and levels the ground surface afterwards. Earthmoving machinery is operated to the site plan rather than by eye, and spoil is placed where it is wanted or loaded for removal. A digger operator works to avoid damage to buried services — cables, gas and water mains, pipelines.
The excavator itself is the operator's responsibility. Heavy construction equipment is kept in good condition, with the daily checks and servicing a machine of this size needs to stay reliable.
Safety shapes the rest. The operator recognises the hazards that dangerous goods on site present, follows the health and safety procedures of the construction sector, and works ergonomically across a long shift in the seat. Requirements for the post, including any licence for the machine operated, are set by the employer and by the construction rules of each country.
