About demolition worker
The worker takes a structure down in a set order, because removing the wrong element first changes how the rest of the building carries its load. The worker operates the heavy equipment, maintains it in good condition, and transports construction materials and debris off the site.
The worker recognises the hazards associated with dangerous goods, since older buildings can contain asbestos, fuel oil, refrigerants, lead or stored chemicals, and prevents damage to utility infrastructure, meaning the buried cables, pipelines, water mains and gas lines around and under a structure.
The worker secures the work area so that other people stay out of reach of falling material. Health and safety procedures in construction are followed throughout, and the worker responds quickly to incidents. Ergonomic working methods are used when lifting and breaking heavy material. Formal requirements are set by the employer.
