About concrete pump operator
The operator first brings a full drum to site within the time the mix allows, positions the vehicle on ground that will carry it, and sets up so that the boom reaches the pour. Then the operator controls the concrete distribution hose, moving it along the formwork at the rate the crew is working, and stopping and restarting the pump on their signal. Before pulling away they secure the heavy construction equipment, fold and lock the boom, and wash out the drum, the hopper and the lines, since concrete left to set in them damages the machine.
The operator also maintains heavy construction equipment and cleans the truck and its mechanical parts, working from knowledge of mechanics and mechanical systems to notice a fault before it stops a pour.
The operator prevents damage to utility infrastructure, meaning the buried cables, pipelines and water mains that outriggers and wheels can crush, and follows health and safety procedures in construction. Ergonomic working methods matter during long pours. Formal requirements are set by national driving licence rules and by the employer.
