About drainage engineer
The engineer starts from the water conditions on the site, identifies flood risk, calculates the run-off from a given area under a rainfall of stated probability, and weighs the design options, then selects the one that will carry the water away and at the same time meet the regulations and environmental standards.
Pipes are sized by calculation. The engineer knows the types of pipeline, takes account of how material properties affect flow — wall roughness, gradient, strength under the load of the ground above — and ensures compliance with pipeline infrastructure regulations and with safety rules. Drawings are produced in technical drawing software.
The system is meant to prevent floods, control irrigation and direct sewage discharge away from water sources. The engineer knows flood remediation equipment and works from engineering fundamentals when assessing structures already in place. Flood risk is reviewed with each design so that the chosen system meets both the regulations and environmental policies.
