A club host or club hostess is a person who greets the customers coming into a club and sees that they are well looked after and leave satisfied. The role is the first and the last contact a guest has with the venue.

About club host/club hostess

Welcoming is the visible task. The host greets guests at the door, shows them where they are going, serves VIP guests to the arrangements made for them, and assists guests on departure. Maintaining relationships with returning customers is a continuation of the same work on a longer timescale.

Watching the room is the quieter task. The host attends to the safety and the needs of the guests, and monitors guest access at the door. Enforcing the rules on the sale of alcoholic drinks to minors falls here as a legal duty rather than a house preference.

Complaints come to the same person. The host handles customer complaints at the moment they are made. The host listens to the guest, stays calm and works towards a solution, and where needed follows the venue's procedure for escalating the complaint. The aim is to resolve the problem on the spot.
