About wastewater treatment operator
What a wastewater operator does is hold a continuous process inside its limits. The operator carries out the water treatment and the wastewater treatment operations the works is designed for, controls the stages the flow passes through, including percolation, and maintains the treatment equipment that keeps them running. Samples are taken on a set round and tested, and the operator interprets the chemical analysis of the water to judge whether the plant is performing. Results of analysis are documented according to the plant's procedures.
The work is done at the plant itself, around tanks, pumps and filter beds, in a process that does not stop when a shift ends.
The role needs an understanding of water chemistry and of the biological stages treatment depends on, steady attention to readings that move slowly, the discipline to follow sampling procedure exactly, and a willingness to work outdoors in all weather. Requirements for the post, including any certification, are set by the employer and by the water regulations of each country.
