About waste management supervisor

The supervisor directs the work and the workers: setting tasks for the shift and laying out waste collection routes. The supervisor also oversees waste treatment at the plant: sorting, shredding, composting and passing fractions on for recovery.

The supervisor ensures conformity with waste regulations, environmental standards and the facility's own policy, develops procedures for waste disposal, and works at preventing breaches of the processing rules by checking how waste is accepted, stored and processed on site. The supervisor also helps develop waste management methods aimed at reducing the quantity of waste, which means separation at source and recovery instead of landfill.

The supervisor is responsible for worker safety: the work happens around moving vehicles, beside conveyors, and in waste that contains corrosive substances, sharp objects and infectious material. The supervisor provides protective equipment and training and checks that safety rules are followed on site.
