About shelf filler
The shelf filler puts products out and rotates the stock: the older batch to the front, the newer behind it, because otherwise goods with a shorter date stay on the shelf while fresh ones sell first. Expired products are identified and removed, and shelf life is estimated.
The filler also changes shelf labels, monitors price accuracy on the shelves — because the price on the shelf and the price at the till have to agree — checks goods for damage, and monitors stock levels, reporting what is missing. The shop is cleaned after trading hours so that the shelves are ready for the next day.
The filler uses trolleys, small forklifts and step ladders for high shelves, while keeping storage safe: heavy goods low, stacks stable, aisles clear. Customers are directed to the product they are looking for. Where food is handled, hygiene rules apply. Formal requirements are set by the employer.
