About offset printer
The printer configures the machine control panel, mounts the printing plates, sets the ink and water balance, the pressures and the register, and runs test sheets until the sheet matches what was approved. Printing techniques and knowledge of print production determine those settings: the same job on uncoated paper, on coated board and on film needs different ink, different pressure and a different drying time.
Once a run starts, the printer operates the offset press and watches for drift in colour and register, checking sheets against the approved reference. When sheets drift from the reference, the printer corrects the press settings.
The printer cleans the printing rollers and the blankets, so that dried ink and paper dust do not transfer onto the next job. The printer follows the production schedule, running jobs in the agreed order. Problems are solved at the machine. Formal requirements are set by national vocational rules and by the employer.
