About metallurgist
The metallurgist carries out metallurgical structural analysis, which establishes the grain structure, the phases and the defects inside a metal, and from that explains why a part failed, why a weld cracked or why a batch came out harder than the last one. The metallurgist knows metal types, precious metal alloys and non-ferrous metal processing.
The metallurgist works on the extraction of metal ores and develops how those metals are used in metal processing technology.
The metallurgist also knows metal manufacturing processes, carries out metalwork and joins metals, carrying properties established in a laboratory over into production at a plant. Metallurgists work in production and in research, and a problem seen on a production line can become a subject of laboratory research. Educational requirements are set by the employer.
