About metal product quality control inspector
The inspector examines material at different stages, carries out sample testing on what is being produced, and tests the finished product, sending it back for repair where that is possible and rejecting it where it is not. The inspector also monitors compliance with production quality standards, so as to notice when a process starts to drift within tolerance before it goes outside it.
The inspector judges defects using knowledge of metal types: the grade, the heat treatment and the finish all affect whether a given defect is acceptable.
The inspector reviews the documentation of quality control systems, checks that records match what was actually inspected, and works to database quality standards so that results can be traced back to a specific batch. Company standards and health and safety standards govern the work. Formal requirements are set by the employer.
