About insulation supervisor

The supervisor leads the team and oversees how insulation work proceeds: insulating walls, roofs and ceilings, services, floors and foundations. Tasks are assigned for the day, progress checked, and quick decisions taken where conditions on site do not agree with the drawings.

Judging the work calls for technical knowledge. The supervisor knows the types of insulation material and what each is for — mineral wool, polystyrene, foams, reflective products — develops insulation concepts and designs building envelope systems. They also install insulation material themselves.

The supervisor also knows the energy performance of buildings and air tightness, and so watches the continuity of the layer and the making of the junctions: trims at windows, service penetrations, corners. Indoor environment quality is a concern too, because poorly installed insulation without ventilation can lead to damp and mould. Requirements for insulating building elements are set in building regulations.
