About dredging supervisor

The dredging supervisor coordinates the work, plans the allocation of resources and the crew's shifts, and makes sure the necessary equipment is available. They direct the anchoring of the vessel, operate GPS systems and work with dredging control consoles. Incoming construction supplies are received and inspected before they are used.

While the work is under way, the supervisor takes care not to damage utility infrastructure such as cables and pipelines. They supervise the crew, evaluate the work of each member and keep records of work progress. They also report to management and act as the link between the crew and the people running the project.

The job requires knowledge of soil mechanics, excavation techniques and mechanical systems, together with the ability to work as part of a construction team. A dredging supervisor makes sure construction health and safety procedures are followed and that personal protective equipment is used, and follows them personally as well. Requirements for the role, including any certification, are set by the employer and by local regulations.
