About centrifuge operator
A centrifuge separates components of different density using centrifugal force. The operator runs the centrifuges and monitors the centrifugal separators: rotational speed, product feed, the discharge of fractions and of the separated solids. Whether a separation comes out clean depends on those settings, because with too high a feed rate some of the impurities carry through with the product.
The operator checks product quality on the production line, carries out plant equipment checks, and reacts when the feedstock changes or solids build up in the bowl. Water hoses and cleaning systems are handled as well, used to wash the centrifuge and its surroundings so that product residue does not contaminate the next batch.
The operator lifts heavy items and works in a hazardous environment: around machines at high rotational speed, hot water and cleaning chemicals. Food processing hygiene procedures and occupational safety rules are applied, because a centrifuge bowl at speed takes time to come to a stop. Formal requirements are set by the employer.
