About ATM repair technician

The ATM repair technician travels out to the customer's site. Installation covers positioning the unit, connecting power and communications, bringing up the software, calibrating the note dispenser and the card reader, and then running test trials with test notes until every transaction completes correctly.

In a repair, the technician starts from the symptom, solves problems by working through the event log on the machine and tells a mechanical fault from a software one: a jam in the feeder, a worn roller, a dirty reader, a communication error with the bank's system. Equipment is repaired on site with hand tools and service software, and replacing modules means lifting heavy parts, since cassettes and the safe of a cash machine are substantial.

The work concerns a device full of money, so the technician detects security threats: marks left by attempts to force the housing, overlays on the card reader, foreign devices near the keypad. Company and bank policy is followed. Customer follow-up services complete the visit: telling the client what was repaired and what will need replacing next time.
