About ski lift operator

Before the slope opens, the operator checks the state of the installation: the drive, the haul rope, the sheaves, the grips, the brakes, the rope tensioning system and the signalling, along with the condition of the bottom and top stations. The operator monitors the mechanism while it runs, listening for changes in sound and vibration and watching the sensor readings.

When something fails, the operator intervenes on a stoppage: establishing why it stopped, clearing minor faults, replacing worn components, and knowing the procedure for bringing people down from the line when the installation cannot be restarted. The operator maintains the equipment and carries out inspections to the manufacturer's instructions, to prevent interruptions to the lift's operation.

The operator knows the safety mechanisms and the types of ropeway installation, implements safety and risk management rules, and ensures compliance with the regulations. Formal requirements for operating and maintaining ski lifts follow national technical inspection rules.
