About primary school teaching assistant
The classroom assistant job description centres on pupils who need extra attention: repeating an instruction the teacher has given, sitting beside a child over a task and checking that what has to be done is actually understood. The assistant helps pupils use equipment — the board, a computer, apparatus — and supports their learning without doing the work for them. Materials the teacher needs in class are prepared, and the clerical work that goes with record-keeping is handled as well.
Teaching assistants in primary schools also keep discipline, manage relations between pupils and resolve the problems children run into: a quarrel at break, being left out of a game, fear of a test. Learning progress and behaviour are tracked, and what the assistant notices goes to the teacher.
