About outdoor activities coordinator
The role is largely a field role, carried out where the activities happen, although it also carries management and administration. That mixture is what makes it difficult: the same person is accountable for a programme on paper and for what is happening on a river bank.
Four kinds of obligation are held at once. The coordinator carries a high awareness of what is owed to the clients, of the technical questions an activity raises, of the environmental questions it raises, and of safety. Balancing them calls for sound judgement.
Conditions outdoors do not hold still. The coordinator leads the outdoor animation activities, manages groups outdoors, manages the outdoor resources, monitors the outdoor interventions, responds appropriately to unexpected events in the field, and gives feedback on circumstances as they change. Managing feedback and organising information close the loop.
