About medical records manager
The manager supervises and trains the staff as the department's policy is implemented, meaning the rules for receiving, describing, sharing and archiving records.
Records have to be findable as well as safe. The manager oversees the locating of patients' medical records when a clinician, the patient or an authorised body needs them. Healthcare information is managed across the systems that hold it.
The manager carries out clinical coding procedures, assigning codes from classifications such as ICD to diagnoses and medical procedures, which a healthcare provider uses for billing and for its statistics. The manager complies with healthcare legislation, which sets out who may see a record, for what purpose, for how long it is kept and how it is destroyed. The manager also uses medical informatics and e-health and m-health technologies, including electronic health records. Requirements for the post are set by the employer and by national healthcare law.
