About marine engineering technician
The scope covers every kind of craft: pleasure boats, merchant ships, warships and submarines. The technician reads engineering sketches and documentation, works from mechanics and engineering fundamentals, and carries out technical tasks such as measurements, setting up a station, assembling sub-units and taking part in trials.
The technician also performs analytical mathematical calculations, conducts experiments, collects data from trials and analyses it, then presents the findings to engineers in a form a conclusion can be drawn from. Technical problems that come up during construction and trials are solved as well.
The technician ensures vessels comply with the rules and takes part in construction supervision and in surveys. The work is done in shipyards and design offices, among other places. Tasks span the whole life of a vessel, from design and production to testing, installation and maintenance, on recreational boats as well as on naval vessels.
