About ICT teacher secondary school
The day-to-day work begins before the lesson: planning what each class will cover and preparing the materials and exercises the students will use. In the lesson the ICT teacher explains the topic, sets practical work at the computer and helps students who get stuck. Afterwards comes assessment — marking assignments, running tests and examinations, and tracking what each student has actually learned. Students who fall behind get individual help, and a teacher who spots a learning difficulty changes the task or the explanation rather than repeating it. Much coursework is set and collected through e-learning tools.
The work takes place in school classrooms and computer rooms, with classes of teenagers, alongside teachers of other subjects.
Two kinds of skill are needed at once. The first is the subject: an ICT educator has to know the material well enough to answer questions that go past the syllabus, and keeps up with changes in computing so that lessons stay current. The second is teaching: choosing instruction strategies that suit the class, keeping order in a room full of screens, managing relationships with students, and adapting work to different abilities. Formal qualifications are set by each country's school system, so an ICT instructor normally completes teacher training first and then specialises in computing.
