About extrusion machine operator
In this way the operator produces pipes, tubes, film and other profiles of constant cross-section. They set the machine up: temperatures in successive barrel zones, screw speed, pressure, haul-off speed and cooling, with the choice of head and die deciding the shape. The control panel is configured for the product and the movement of material through the machine monitored.
The operator monitors the automatic machines, watches the dimensions of the product at the outlet and reacts to deviations: a change in wall thickness, a wavy surface, bubbles, scorching. The operator knows extrusion processes and solves problems that arise during production by adjusting the machine settings.
The operator also runs test trials, measures the product, consults technical resources with a new material, and cleans and maintains the machine — the screw and the head above all, where set material changes the flow. Entry comes through a mechanical or plastics processing vocational qualification.
