About art administrator
The scope of the work is the business side of artistic activity. The administrator supports financial operations and the management of the organisation: budgets, settlements, contracts, reports and dealings with funders. Administrators work in dance companies, film studios, theatres, art museums and galleries, and in government and not-for-profit organisations as well as for-profit ones.
The second group of duties concerns the production itself. The administrator organises artistic performances and coordinates artistic production: rehearsal dates, space, transport, technical support. The administrator also keeps an artistic activity portfolio, a documented record of what the organisation has done.
The administrator knows the field they work in. They understand art collections and their care, know art history and monitor the art market: prices, public interest, what other institutions are doing. They identify an artistic niche the organisation can occupy and take corporate social responsibility towards the surrounding community into account.
